And You Go

I am in love with life.

Not the good parts.

But the daunting challenges.

When your fortress is burned to the ground.

When you’re hanging on by a thread.

When you’re lost.

When you’re broken.

When you’re ready to give up, and you just have to try once more.

And that attempt fails too.

The moment you’re left sitting in the raw truth of it.

And there’s no one to perform for.

Just the quiet resolve after hours of crying.

Thinking it’s hopeless.

It’s the inner voice that says, OK then…

This sucked.

And you get up and go.

Wobbly and uncertain.

Disoriented and unsure.

But you go.

You pick yourself up.

Shrug your shoulders.

Put one foot in front of the other.

And go.

Never quite stopping to think about how you got past it.

Just realizing it in retrospect.

Whatever it is.

You will manage.

You always have.

You always will.

The Pluck

My great-grandma had one evil habit. Sewing. If she got hold of clothing. Forget it. It was done. There were no exceptions. Even her own. Brand new dresses? Torn. Brand new aprons? Modified and torn.
