The Moment I Remembered

He was sitting next to me.

This guy I've known for over a decade.

We were in front of the slots.

Discussing his new girlfriend.

His mom's birthday.

And just laughing at the losses.

His slot suddenly hit, and I high-fived him.

He caught my hand as I slapped it against his…

He kissed it.

I had no external reaction to it.

But inside…

It was the strangest thing.

Something in me woke up.

I remembered…

He continued talking.

I continued to look in his eyes as he spoke.

 But inside…

I was floating through space.

I remembered the ache in your stomach

When you kiss the one you love.

Strong arms around you, pulling you close.

The soft breath of nuzzling against your neck.

Fingers pressing, pulling…

In quiet passionate desperation.

And I was grateful.

Grateful for the reminder.

That somewhere out there.

There is someone for me.
