Rejection

Each one of us has suffered rejection.

And that rejection has stayed with us.

In my case, it was my mother.

I took her rejection as proof that something was wrong with me.

I carried that all through life.

And like every person with an unresolved issue,

I chose people to love who would not love me back.

It wasn’t a conscious choice.

It was my brain trying to reconcile with my mother.

Because if I could get them to love me,

then I could get my mother to love me.

I spent a lifetime thinking I was unworthy.

Thinking I had to work hard to be loved.

But the truth that you and I have to face is that the rejection had nothing to do with us.

They were people going through something.

Maybe they were in a bad place.

Maybe they had suffered rejection themselves.

Or maybe they simply didn’t feel love.

Today, I want you to know something.

You are worthy.

You are worthy of love.

And of being loved completely the way you want.

You don't have to change anything about yourself.

Not your hair,

not your nose,

not the way you talk,

not a single thing about the way you are.

You have to go out and find those people who will love you freely.

Who won't require you to change.

Who won't require anything in exchange.

But before any of this can happen, you have to love yourself.

You have to go back in time.

To the version of you that was rejected.

And let that version of you know,

at whatever age that was,

that it was all a lie.

That somewhere out there,

there is someone you will meet who will never want to leave your side.

Who will want to hear every story you have to tell.

Who will sigh when they look into your eyes.

Who will look at you with a look just made for you.

Who will never think you’re too much.

Don’t give those who rejected you another minute of your time.

They were never for you.
